Intuitive Set and Setting for Your Journey
Share
When working with powerful plant medicines like Hapé (pronounced ha-peh), creating a safe and sacred space is essential for deepening the experience and connecting with the deepest divine part of you.
Hapé is an ancient Amazonia tool used for spiritual healing, cleansing, and connection, typically administered through a ceremonial snuff. Its effects can be profound and transformative, which is why setting the right environment can ensure the experience is as beneficial and grounded as possible.
At Root of Wisdom, we understand the importance of preparing the right setting for a powerful plant medicine journey. Allow your creative senses to explore as simple or intricate space as comfortable to you. Trust your intuition...
We would like you through key tips on creating a safe yet vulnerable space for your healing with any medicine:
- Cleanse Your Space
Before you embark on your journey, it's essential to energetically cleanse your space. You can use sage, palo santo, or other sacred herbs to smudge the Self and the area to remove any heavy or stagnant energy. As you cleanse, set the intention to clear the space for healing and uplifting energy. You may also consider using crystals like clear quartz, selenite, or black tourmaline or fire + water elements for cleansing and purification.
- Create an Altar or Sacred Space
A key component is creating an altar or sacred space that resonates with your intention for the ceremony. You can set up your altar with meaningful objects like crystals, feathers, candles, and incense. Keep it simple, but let it represent elements of nature that call to you.
Consider placing your Hapé tools—like your Tepi (applicator) and Kuripe (self-administering pipe)—on the altar, as they are sacred instruments that help facilitate the healing process. Whether you're working alone or in a group, this space serves as a physical and energetic focal point for your ceremony.
- Set Your Intention
Every medicine journey begins with intention. Before you begin the ceremony, take a moment to reflect on why you are using Hapé in order to connect deeper and form a sacred relationship with the medicine as well as the 'Self'. Whether you’re seeking clarity, healing, or spiritual connection, holding a clear and focused intention will help guide the journey.
Write down your intention or speak it aloud, then place it on your altar or in front of you. This process helps reinforce your purpose and creates a mindful atmosphere for the ceremony.
- Comfort and Grounding
Physical comfort is just as important as the energetic setting. Ensure you’re in a space where you can relax and feel supported throughout the process. The best position for self-consecrating Hapé is sitting upright, legs crossed. If being served by another community member, you can choose to sit across from each other or standing in front of each other.
- Dim the Lights and Set the Mood
Consider dimming the lights or lighting candles to create a calm, gentle ambiance. The soft glow can evoke a peaceful and introspective mood, allowing you to focus inwardly and prepare for the medicine's effects.
If you enjoy music during your journey, select calming, shamanic music or soundscapes that will help you stay centered and grounded.
- Limit Distractions
The Hapé journey is sacred and personal. To fully immerse in the experience, it’s important to limit distractions. Turn off your phone or put it on airplane mode, and let others know that you’re entering a sacred space and may not be available during the ceremony. Ensure the space is quiet and serene so that you can focus solely on your connection with the medicine.
- Prepare Your Hapé Tools
When it comes to the practicalities of working with Hapé, having your tools ready is important. If you are using a Kuripe, make sure it is clean and placed nearby. If using a Tepi, ensure that the pipe is properly prepared. Keep the Hapé snuff close to you, as you may want to prepare it before beginning the ceremony.
Hapé should be treated with respect and care, as it is a spirit being embodying the healing properties of wild tobacco. Having everything ready will help prevent any disruptions once you begin your ceremony.
- Ground Yourself and Center Your Energy
Before taking the medicine, take a few moments to center yourself. Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and take deep, slow breaths. Connect with your body and the earth beneath you. Ground yourself by visualizing roots growing from the soles of your feet into the earth, pulling and anchoring you consciousness into the present moment. Fully embodied. Do not worry if you cannot fully grasp the moment yet... the medicina will guide you to this place.
- Be Ready to Receive and Surrender
Once you’re fully prepared—physically, mentally, and emotionally—take a moment to be present and open to receive. Trust that the medicine will guide you to where you need to go. Be ready to surrender to the experience, and know that whatever comes up during the journey is part of the healing process.
There is no right or wrong way to experience Hapé. Trust yourself and the medicine, and let it unfold as it will.
- Post-Ceremony Integration
After the journey, take time to reflect and integrate the experience. Journal your thoughts, feelings, and insights that arose during the ceremony. Hydrate and rest, as you may feel physically or emotionally drained. Integration is just as important as preparation, and it can help you make sense of the medicine's messages and guide your next steps on how to weave the message into the ceremony of life.
Incorporating these practices will help you create a safe, sacred, and supportive space for your Hapé journey. Remember, this is your personal spiritual experience, so honor it in way that resonates with you.
